Sega has canceled development of its ‘super game’, as it pivots away from live service games

Sega has canceled its long-planned Super Game and is pulling back from live service and free-to-play development.

The company said weak results and the Rovio acquisition helped prompt the shift, with more than 100 developers reassigned to full game teams.

Sega is keeping classic franchise revivals in development, including Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage.

The move marks a major strategic pivot as publishers face growing risk from costly live service bets with uncertain returns.
