Motorola says affiliate hijacking of Amazon app was 'unintended'

Motorola said a routing bug in its app launcher briefly sent some U.S. users through an affiliate tracking page before opening Amazon Shopping.

The issue came from an unintended configuration in the app search and suggestion system, not from a deliberate change to user behavior.

Motorola says it has corrected the problem, and app launches should now open directly as expected.

The incident sparked privacy concerns because it appeared to insert tracking links and cookies without clear user consent.
