Scientists Just Rewrote the Timeline of Complex Life on Earth

Researchers reported over 700 fossils from the Jiangchuan Biota in Yunnan dated 554–539 million years ago.

The fossils include early deuterostomes, ambulacrarians, bilaterian worms, and possible comb jellies preserved as carbonaceous films.

The study, published in Science, moves many complex animal lineages into the late Ediacaran at least 4 million years before the Cambrian explosion.
