A Swiss 40-year study of 96,410 colorectal cancer cases found rising incidence in adults under 50, while rates fell in older screened age groups.

The increase was driven mainly by rectal cancers and, in young women, right-sided colon cancers.

More younger patients were diagnosed with metastatic disease, raising concern about later detection and outcomes.

The findings support earlier symptom awareness and a review of screening policy for younger adults.
