Pentagon expands missile arsenal with 10,000 cruise and 500 hypersonic weapons

The Pentagon is moving to buy more than 10,000 low-cost cruise missiles starting in 2027 under new framework agreements.

Contracts involve Anduril, Leidos, CoAspire, and Zone 5 Technologies to evaluate designs and scale production.

Separately, the Defense Department outlined a plan with Castelion for at least 500 hypersonic missiles.

The push reflects a shift toward cheaper, mass-produced weapons to prepare for prolonged high-intensity conflict.
