A Bright Comet Is Now Visible — How To See PanSTARRS This Weekend

Comet C/2025 R3 is brightening and is already visible without optical aid in very dark skies.

The PanSTARRS survey found it at Haleakala, Hawaii, on Sept. 7, 2025.

It is estimated to orbit the Sun about every 170,000 years.

Northern Hemisphere observers should look low in the eastern sky about 90 minutes before sunrise until April 20, near the Great Square of Pegasus.

A 10x50 pair of binoculars can help as it reaches perihelion on April 19, about 0.5 AU from the Sun, and passes closest to Earth on April 27.
