OpenStack Gazpacho simplifies operations and VMware migrations

OpenStack 2026.1 "Gazpacho" is released, prioritizing operational simplicity and hardware flexibility; it is a SLURP release and related solutions are now housed under the OpenInfra Foundation, including Kata Containers, StarlingX and Zuul.

Gazpacho adds live migration for VMware workloads, including vTPM support, parallel live migrations in Nova and multiple simultaneous memory transfer connections — reflecting a continued focus on replacing VMware as users shift away following the earlier Dalmatian release.

Networking and bare-metal updates include Neutron OVN driver gaining BGP support and north–south routing for external ports, allowed address pairs with virtual MACs, trait-based port scheduling, and an Ironic autodetect deploy interface.

Cyborg includes a new driver configuration guide for accelerator types; operators running 2025.1 Epoxy can upgrade directly to Gazpacho.

Forty percent of contributions came from Europe tied to sovereignty initiatives; Thierry Carrez said OpenStack remains a trusted and mature foundation for building secure, sovereign and adaptable cloud infrastructure.
