Microsoft will allow users to indefinitely pause updates in Windows 11 — first change in over a decade to the mandatory update policy

Microsoft is testing Windows 11 update-policy changes in the Windows Insider Program.

The changes include indefinite update pausing, more flexible scheduling, and clearer update labels.

Users would also keep normal Restart and Shut down options even when updates are pending.

The goal is to give people more control over disruptive updates while still protecting security patching.
