Microsoft still doesn't know why the Xbox outage stopped physical games from working

Microsoft is still investigating why an Xbox network outage briefly blocked some players from launching physical disc-based games.

The outage hit on July 26–27, and service was later restored, but some users still could not access disc titles as expected.

Microsoft says disc-based entitlement checks should not have stopped play, and the problem may involve locally stored license data not being used properly on some consoles.

The incident raises fresh questions about offline access and how reliable game ownership is in Xbox’s increasingly digital ecosystem.
