NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope captured Messier 77 in infrared, revealing a bright active galactic nucleus at its core.

The image also shows a bar, a starburst ring, cooler dust structures, and extended hydrogen filaments that give the galaxy its “Squid Galaxy” nickname.

The observation highlights Webb’s ability to peer through dust and study hidden galactic centers, star formation, and gas in nearby active galaxies.
