Researchers get two genetic codes to work at the same time

Researchers led by George Church demonstrated a method to run two genetic codes in parallel outside living cells.

The approach could test alternative codes without rewriting every gene in a bacterial cell.

If validated in cells, it may speed engineered protein design and the use of noncanonical amino acids.
