German firm to deliver Romania’s first hydrogen-powered train to boost decarbonization effort

Siemens Mobility won a Romanian contract to supply 12 two-car Mireo Plus H hydrogen trains and maintain them for 15 years.

The fleet will be Romania’s first hydrogen-powered trains, with service expected to begin in 2029.

The trains will replace diesel operations on non-electrified regional lines, cutting emissions and noise.

The project supports modernization of Romania’s rail network and broader decarbonization goals.
