Microsoft is finally fixing Windows Update's habit of downgrading your GPU drivers without asking

Microsoft will revise Windows Update’s driver-matching rules so older display drivers are less likely to replace newer OEM-installed GPU drivers.

The change uses updated hardware ID targeting to avoid unintended graphics driver rollbacks on affected PCs.

Microsoft says the policy is aimed at reducing driver conflicts and update-related performance issues.

Rollout is expected to begin in late 2026 or early 2027 for newer devices and drivers.
