“One Time Restart”—Microsoft Changes Windows After 15 Years

Microsoft is rolling out new Secure Boot certificates for eligible Windows PCs through regular security updates, and some devices may need an extra restart.

Many Windows 10 PCs outside support may not receive the update unless users enroll in extended security updates.

The certificate refresh is meant to protect Windows boot security as older certificates expire.

Google is also introducing Googlebook, a premium AI-focused laptop category built with major PC makers to compete more directly with Windows machines.
