AI Detects “Invisible” Signs of Pancreatic Cancer Years Before Diagnosis

Researchers developed REDMOD, an AI system that scans routine CT images for subtle radiomic signs of pancreatic cancer.

In retrospective multi-hospital testing, it detected preclinical disease an average of 475 days before diagnosis and outperformed experienced radiologists.

The findings suggest a path to much earlier detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, which is usually found late and has poor survival.

REDMOD still needs further clinical validation before it can be used in practice.
