Rivian achieved a 50% lower cost in making the R2 EVs. Let’s hope the benefits pass on to buyers

Rivian says the upcoming R2 SUV will cost more than 50% less to produce than the R1.

The savings come from fewer parts, less wiring, simplified suspension and drive hardware, and larger castings.

That points to real progress on a cheaper, more scalable EV platform for mass-market buyers.

If Rivian passes those savings to customers, the R2 could strengthen its case for profitable volume sales.
