Microsoft to unveil 'Ask Copilot' this summer… used instead of the Windows 11 taskbar search box

Microsoft plans to unveil Ask Copilot this summer, replacing the Windows 11 taskbar search box with a Copilot-centric pop-up.

The new interface will let users search local files and chat with Copilot from the search field.

The feature is optional, with rollout expected in mid-2026.

Microsoft is also improving Windows Search to prioritize local results first.
