A New Kind of HIV Pill Just Passed Its First Test in Humans

Early phase 2a results suggest the new HIV capsid inhibitor VH-499 is safe and well tolerated.

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 23 adults with untreated HIV-1 were enrolled.

Participants receiving VH-499 showed dose-related drops in viral load by day 11, while placebo showed little change.

The drug also showed no major CYP3A4 interaction, an important sign for potential drug-drug compatibility.

If larger studies confirm these findings, VH-499 could add a new mechanism to HIV treatment options.
