SoftBank launches Starlink Direct, free for Y!mobile too

SoftBank has launched “SoftBank Starlink Direct,” a satellite-to-smartphone service using Starlink for SoftBank, Y!mobile, and LINEMO users.

The service supports 82 iPhone and Android models with satellite mode, enabling basic communication even outside mobile coverage.

SoftBank plan customers and some Y!mobile users can use it free from April 10; other Y!mobile and LINEMO users are free for now but will need a ¥1,650 monthly option from July.

The new service could improve connectivity in mountains, at sea, and during disasters, including access to emergency alerts.
