Supermicro-tied execs used a Thai government entity to ship Nvidia AI GPUs to China, report alleges; Chinese web giant Alibaba received restricted servers

Bloomberg reports that Supermicro-linked executives may have used a Thailand-based intermediary, Obon Corp., to divert restricted Nvidia AI servers into China.

Some of the shipments are alleged to have reached Alibaba, which denies using prohibited hardware.

U.S. prosecutors say the broader scheme involved falsified records, dummy servers, and about $2.5 billion in shipments since 2024.

The case underscores how third-country intermediaries can be used to bypass U.S. export controls on advanced AI chips.
