Northwestern University researchers unveiled Phantom Twist, a spinning drone designed to nearly disappear in flight.

The drone uses motion blur and AI-optimized geometry to make it much harder for people to see.

The team presented the research at Robotics: Science and Systems 2026 in Sydney.

The work points to a new kind of drone stealth based on human perception, with potential uses in wildlife observation and other low-visibility tasks.
