US scientists build noise-free phonon lasers to unlock quantum compasses

Scientists at the University of Rochester and RIT created a phonon laser with reduced thermal noise.

They squeezed phonon fluctuations with light and measured acceleration more accurately than photon or RF sources.

The team says the device could enable satellite-free, 'unjammable' quantum compasses and improve quantum sensing.
