Hitachi and Panasonic unveil next-generation digital ID that does not rely on devices or passwords

Hitachi and Panasonic Connect Group are expanding their collaboration to commercialize a next-generation digital identity service that combines face recognition with biometric encryption.

The approach does not rely on devices or passwords, instead generating and using a secret key from biometric data in a one-time manner for authentication and digital signatures.

The goal is to address challenges in public biometric infrastructure, Digital Identity Wallets, and self-sovereign identity while enabling safer identity verification.

It could reduce risks from lost devices and password leaks, and help expand secure verification in government and financial services as well as counter deepfakes.
