AMD Unleashes Instinct MI455X GPU, A 320 Billion Transistor Behemoth That Is Designed to Tackle NVIDIA’s Rubin With 50% More HBM4 Memory & Up to 40 PFLOPs of AI Compute

AMD unveiled the Instinct MI455X, a 320-billion-transistor AI GPU in its MI400 series.

Built on CDNA 5 with TSMC 2nm/3nm nodes and HBM4, it delivers more than 40 PFLOPs of AI compute.

The chip is designed to power the Helios rack-scale system for large AI training and inference workloads.

The launch shows AMD’s stronger push to challenge NVIDIA in frontier AI hardware with high memory capacity and rack-scale infrastructure.
