Medical Scans Reveal Hidden Secrets Inside Ancient Egyptian Mummies

Researchers at Budapest’s Semmelweis Museum of Medical History used a new photon-counting CT scanner to study ancient Egyptian mummies without unwrapping them.

Early scans have helped identify contents, possible diseases, and mummification methods, while some remains have also been carbon-dated.

The high-resolution imaging could refine the mummies’ ages and scientific interpretation while preserving the remains intact.
