GitHub Copilot switches to token-based billing in June 2026

GitHub says Copilot will switch to token-based billing on June 1, 2026, using AI Credits tied to input, output, and cached tokens.

Subscription prices will stay the same, and code completions will remain free of AI Credit usage.

Business customers will receive temporary bonus credits during the transition, and a preview invoice is expected in early May.

GitHub also said it will start using interaction data from Free, Pro, and Pro+ users for AI training on April 24, 2026 unless they opt out.
