xAI has sued Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to block a new law banning AI nudification and deepfakes.

The company argues the statute’s definition of sexually explicit content is too vague and could sweep in harmless, satirical, or political images.

Minnesota lawmakers passed the bill overwhelmingly, and it was set to take effect on August 1 with steep civil fines per violation.

xAI said it would restrict Grok Imagine image editing for Minnesota users before the law takes effect.
