Legendary AlphaFold team disbanded! Nobel laureate joins Anthropic, resources shift to Gemini

Google DeepMind has reportedly dissolved the standalone AlphaFold team, reassigning members to Gemini, AI coding, genomics, protein and enzyme design, fusion, and Isomorphic Labs.

AlphaFold 2 lead John Jumper, along with Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel, has left Google and joined Anthropic.

The move marks a shift from a focused research squad that delivered a Nobel-winning breakthrough to a broader, platform-led AI science strategy centered on Gemini.

It also raises concerns about talent loss and how Google will pursue future scientific innovation.
