"In case of emergency, use this USB": someone has put everything essential into a survival pendrive

Spanish developer Javier Prieto launched refugiOS, a bootable USB system built on lightweight Ubuntu.

It can be set up once online, then used fully offline with encyclopedias, maps, office tools, media playback, and file sync.

The system includes Kiwix content like Wikipedia, WikiMed, and WikiHow, plus Organic Maps for offline navigation.

refugiOS also runs a local AI assistant using models such as Phi-4-mini and Qwen3, and supports encrypted storage with LUKS.

The project is aimed at emergencies, privacy, and greater digital resilience when internet access is unavailable.
