Scientists Discover Cheap Material That Kills Deadly Superbugs

Researchers at Flinders University and collaborators developed a sulfur-rich polymer that kills a range of harmful bacteria and fungi.

The material showed strong activity against pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Tests indicated the polymer does not damage human or plant cells, suggesting a safer antimicrobial option.

The low-cost sulfur-based approach could help fight antimicrobial resistance in both healthcare and agriculture.
