Google gives Swiss Android users fewer search options than their EU counterparts, regulator says

Swiss watchdog WEKO has opened a preliminary probe into whether Google violated cartel law by removing the Android search-engine choice screen in Switzerland.

Google no longer shows the setup screen there, even though similar user-choice measures remain in place in the EU and EEA.

The case could determine how much access Swiss users have to rival search engines and whether global tech firms must follow EU-style choice rules in Switzerland.

It also raises a broader policy question over how closely Switzerland should align its digital regulation with the EU.
