Meta abandons open-source Llama for proprietary Muse Spark

Meta is shifting its focus from open-weight Llama to Muse Spark, a new proprietary model from Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Llama models will remain available, but Meta has not offered a clear migration path to Muse Spark.

Because Muse Spark is cloud-only and cannot be self-hosted or downloaded, developers may stay on older Llama versions or move to other AI providers.

The pivot could weaken Meta’s standing in open-source AI and push users toward rival open models or proprietary APIs.
