France to ditch Windows for Linux to reduce reliance on US tech

France plans to replace Windows on some government PCs with Linux, starting at the digital agency DINUM.

The government did not disclose a timeline or which Linux distributions it will adopt.

The shift is part of a broader effort to reduce dependence on U.S. tech and strengthen digital sovereignty.

France has already moved away from Microsoft Teams toward the French-made Visio service, alongside other local infrastructure efforts.
