Madrid promises to open the A-5 tunnel in December, but one delicate issue remains first: connecting the new tunnel with the old one

Madrid says excavation of the new A-5 tunnel will finish in the next few weeks, with full completion expected in December.

Before then, the city must briefly cut the Calle 30 tunnel to connect the new section with the old one and integrate both systems.

The project will reshape a major daily traffic corridor in southwest Madrid and could pave the way for further underground expansion.
