Fake DDR5 sticks with dummy plastic chips are the latest RAM scam

A Japanese user exposed fake DDR5 SO-DIMM sticks sold with convincing labels but empty plastic chip packages.

The scam is part of a broader wave of RAM counterfeits on marketplaces in Japan, including Yahoo Auctions and Amazon.

Counterfeit DDR5 can trick buyers, waste money, and fail in real systems, making verification more important during the memory shortage.

Corsair has recently changed its packaging for Vengeance memory to make fraud harder and reduce confusion.
