Gemini can now follow your rules in Google Docs

Google is adding custom instructions to Gemini in Google Docs, letting users set preferences for tone, formatting, and summary style.

The feature appears in the side panel and applies to Gemini writing tools like Help me write and Help me create.

Rollout begins gradually on May 4, 2026, and is available to Business, Enterprise, and select Google AI subscribers.

The update should make Docs-generated text more consistent and better suited to business and personal workflows.
