Alibaba Targets NVIDIA’s Hopper With Zhenwu M890 AI Chip, Claiming 3x H20 Performance, 144GB HBM3, and a Roadmap Through 2028

Alibaba unveiled the self-developed Zhenwu M890 AI accelerator alongside Qwen3.7-Max, signaling a deeper push into its own AI hardware stack.

The chip features 144GB of HBM3 memory and 800GB/s bandwidth, with Alibaba claiming gains over its prior chip and NVIDIA’s H20 in key workloads.

Alibaba also highlighted system-scale connectivity via ICN Switch 1.0 and the Panjiu AL128 Supernode Server for larger AI deployments.

The company laid out a multi-year roadmap, including the V900 in 2027 and J900 in 2028, underscoring long-term hardware ambitions.
