Skyrim Username Sends Innocent Man to Prison for 18 Months

Brandon Klayme was wrongly arrested and convicted after Wisconsin police mistook his similar Kik username for a suspect’s account.

The case began with an investigation into explicit messages sent to a 12-year-old girl, but officers requested records for the wrong handle.

Klayme’s Skyrim-themed username differed by just one underscore, yet that small mismatch led to 18 months in jail.

An appeal exposed the error, and prosecutors later acquitted him.
