The European Union’s new victory: the right to have a device repaired even after the warranty expires takes effect on July 31

The EU will start applying its ‘right to repair’ rules on July 31, allowing certain devices to be fixed even after warranty if repair is feasible and reasonably priced.

The directive requires access to spare parts, technical information, tools, replacement goods, and a future European repair platform.

It strengthens consumer protection, helps cut electronic waste, and pushes manufacturers toward longer-lasting, more repairable products.
