Discord calls finally get end-to-end encryption, but your DMs didn’t make the cut

Discord has turned on default end-to-end encryption for standard voice and video calls across web, desktop, mobile, consoles, and apps/bots.

The rollout uses Discord’s multi-year DAVE-based system and requires no user opt-in.

Direct messages and Stage channels are not covered, and Discord says it has no current plans to encrypt text chat.

The move significantly improves call privacy on a major cross-platform service, but leaves much of Discord’s messaging experience exposed.
