Threads starts rolling out DMs on the web, but there are a few catches

Threads is starting to test direct messages on the web, addressing a major gap in the product.

The first rollout supports inbox access from the side menu, one-to-one chats, and sharing posts through DMs.

Group chats are planned for later, and the rollout will be phased by region, with unclear timing.

Meta says existing DM privacy controls stay in place, and web DMs will expand to most countries for users 18 and older.
