Slashing agent token costs by 98% with RFC 9457-compliant error responses

Cloudflare now serves RFC 9457-style structured error responses for AI agents that request Markdown or JSON.

Instead of bulky HTML pages, many edge and policy errors return machine-readable guidance such as retry, back off, stop, or reroute.

The feature is live by default across Cloudflare’s network for 1xxx-class error paths.

Cloudflare says the change can cut payload size and token usage by more than 98%, making failures cheaper and easier for automated systems to handle.
