Russia’s new nuclear submarine Perm will enter service this year. It promises to do something no other can: launch hypersonics

The Russian Navy says the nuclear-powered submarine Perm will finish trials and join the Pacific Fleet this year.

Perm is being presented as the first Yasen-M-class boat configured to carry Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles.

The claim has not been independently verified and comes amid a broader Russian submarine modernization effort.

If confirmed, it would boost Moscow’s stealthy long-range sea strike capability, though it would not by itself transform the naval balance.
