EU Will Require Labels for Authentic-Looking AI Content Starting August 2

The EU will require labels and watermarks on AI-generated images, audio, and text that are made to look authentic starting August 2.

New AI systems entering the EU market must comply immediately, while existing systems get a four-month grace period.

Exemptions apply to personal content and clearly artistic satire or fiction.

Noncompliance can trigger fines of up to 3% of global revenue.

Lawmakers say the rules are designed to improve online transparency and protect consumers and democracy.
