First Western Digital, now Sony: The tech giant suspends SD card sales

Sony has suspended orders for most SD cards and CFexpress Type A/B cards for both vendors and consumers.

The announcement was posted on Sony’s Japanese website; Sony Store stopped accepting orders from March 27, 2026.

Sony cites a global semiconductor (memory) shortage and other factors, saying supply will not meet demand for the foreseeable future.

Some low-end cards may still be produced, but Sony gave no date for resuming full manufacturing or orders.

Sony will consider resuming orders based on supply and will post updates on product pages; this follows supply issues such as Western Digital selling out of hard drives in February and Sony’s PlayStation price hikes.
