Google could be prepping a powerful new Gemini AI model to outsmart ChatGPT

Google is rumored to unveil a new Gemini model at I/O on May 19.

The goal is to close in on OpenAI’s GPT-5.5-class systems, though Anthropic’s frontier model is still ahead.

Google is also expected to highlight agentic coding and other model updates for developers.

Developers may only switch if the new Gemini brings clear workflow gains in coding and multi-step agent tasks.
