How to Disable Google's Gemini in Chrome

Chrome desktop users can now disable Google’s on-device Gemini Nano model through a browser setting.

The model had been auto-downloading and using about 4 GB of local storage to power security and developer AI features.

Turning it off stops future downloads and updates, but also removes some scam-detection and on-device API capabilities.

The change highlights growing user concerns about hidden AI defaults and local AI components in consumer software.
