European Parliament pushes to remove Google from default search engines

The European Parliament will replace Google with French search engine Qwant as the default search engine on office computers.

Firefox and Edge address-bar searches will also default to Qwant, though staff can still switch to other engines manually.

The parliament said the move supports digital sovereignty and stronger privacy protection.

The change reflects a wider push by European public institutions to reduce reliance on U.S. tech giants.
