Moonshot AI rumored to have used 20,000 Nvidia chips via Alibaba

Reports say Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI accessed about 20,000 older Nvidia Hopper chips through Alibaba to train its Kimi models.

The chips were described as Moonshot’s main compute resource, and there were also signs it may have reached Blackwell architecture via Southeast Asian routes.

It is unclear whether the access came through a legal rental arrangement or a rules-bypassing purchase.

Alibaba denied allegations that it supplied H200 chips to Moonshot AI.
