Bluesky removed 8,526 'state-involved public opinion manipulation accounts' in a year

Bluesky says it removed 8,526 accounts tied to state-backed opinion manipulation from May 2025 through the following year.

Of those, 4,907 were deleted in 2026 alone; most were dormant accounts that had been compromised or taken over.

The company says it usually acted within hours, limiting each account to about 50 views on average before removal.

Bluesky is urging stronger account security, including unique passwords, password managers, and two-factor authentication, to reduce takeover risk.
